The elegance of Milan inspires a lifestyle worthy of a prince. You may feel like a Visconti (ancestors of the famous director of The Leopard) in the halls of the Castello Sforzesco, decorated by none other than Leonardo da Vinci. We will also visit the fascinating Museo Bagatti Valsecchi, which houses a staggering private collection of 2000 works in a sublime patrician residence. Since luxury is accessible to all, we will finally go for a meander around the Piazza San Babila to admire the captivating creations of Milanese designers and – who knows? – perhaps take a beautifully Baroque item back home with us.
The eventful production of Julius Caesar at La Scala gathers all the components of a royal evening: stage design by the formidable Robert Carsen, who explores the world of Händel, after his unforgettable Alcina presented a few years ago at the Palais Garnier, along with a dazzling vocal cast. Judge for yourselves: Bejun Mehta as Caesar, Cecilia Bartoli as Cleopatra, our French compatriot Philippe Jaroussky as Sextus Pompey, and Sara Mingardo as Cornelia. The highest heaven of Baroque music.

Created on 20 September 1724 in London, Julius Caesar is probably Händel’s most famous piece of music. A lover more than a true warrior (what amorous singing!), Caesar overcomes the traps set by the cruel Tolomeo and finally marries the latter’s sister, the beautiful Cleopatra. With a vast range of instruments, and arias among Händel’s most recognised works (the virtuous Da Tempeste by Cleopatra, or the lyrical Cara Speme by Sextus), this opera alternates between tragic grandeur and humour with extraordinary skill. Boasting an exceptional director and conductor (Carsen, Antonini), the splendid vocal cast creates an operatic evening that will make you proud to say: “I was there!”
